Streamlining any process is always a good idea when running a business. From content creation to taxes to inbox management, finding ways to get repetitive tasks done quicker is super helpful to have on hand.

In today’s post we are going to walk you through how to create a blog post template for your Squarespace website. This will save you time in the future from formatting and creating new blog layouts every time you have something to share.

Create your Template

To get started, go to your website’s blog page. Once you are within the blog menu, select the large + sign in towards the top as if you are creating a new blog post. Name this post ‘Blog Template’ and build out your post with content blocks. No need to actually place content in this boxes, but having them ready to roll for items can be a huge time saver. Especially if you are inserting the same types of things over and over again into your blogs.

Items like related blog posts, email newsletter sign ups or links to your services page are great to include in your template. You can also customize a footer or incorporate image blocks that will house your social media graphics like for platforms such as a Pinterest.

Other examples of content you might want to include are customized sidebars (see our post on how to add a sidebar to any Squarespace template here) or author bio boxes.

Duplicate your Template

Once you build out your template to your liking, hit Save. Make sure to NOT hit Save and Publish unless you want a blank blog post on your website! Whenever you have a new blog post to add, select to edit your drafted ‘Blog Template’ and select Duplicate on the bottom of the blog post menu.

From here you can add in your new copy, images, videos, etc. and prepare your latest blog post to go live on your website. You can Schedule your post to be published or select Save and Publish for your content to display on your site immediately.

This is the perfect way to achieve consistency AND technical customization all while using the powerful built in tools of Squarespace.
