Change Forms

Form blocks allow users to submit messages or other types of information through your site. We always include a contact form on the Contact page of each template we create. We add custom CSS to each of our templates to create what are called infield top-aligned form labels. You will notice when you look at your forms that the field labels sit inside the shape of the field. The latest user-experience research suggests this reduces the cognitive load for users filling out your form.

How to Change the Form Content

  1. To change the content of your form, double-click your form (or click once and then click the pencil icon).

  2. You will be directed to the Content tab. Then you can edit the form name, button text, form fields, and post-submit experience.

    • Form Name – The form name will show up when you receive a form submission via email. If you have more than one form on your website, be sure to use a descriptive name so you can tell at a glance which form type was submitted.

    • Button Text – This text will appear on the button below the form.

    • Form Fields – To edit the form fields, click Edit Form Fields. Then, click one of the existing form fields to edit or click Add Field to add a new field. You can choose from field types like email, dropdown, website, and file upload. After editing or adding new form fields, you can reorganize them by clicking the six dot icon to the left of the form name and dragging it up or down.

    • Post-Submit – You can either write a message telling users that the form was successfully submitted or redirect users to another page on your site after a user submits the form.

  3. Click Save to save the changes you have made to the form content.

How to Change the Form Design

  1. To change the look of your form, click the Design tab at the top of the form block editing window.

  2. From the Design tab, you can customize the settings for form style, button style, button alignment, and a few other settings.

    • Form Style – Choose from a recommended set of form packs or customize each aspect of the form style by clicking Edit Form Styles. Then, you can change the field shape, field fill, border/border thickness, padding, fonts, and colors.

    • Button Style – Choose one of your three button styles—primary, secondary, and tertiary.

    • Button Alignment – Align your button to the left, center, or right—or set it to span the width of the form.

  3. Click Save to save the changes you have made to the form design.

How to Change the Form Storage

As you can see in the image below, Squarespace uses the original designer of the website (in this case, Station Seven) as the default email for the email notification. You need to change this to your email address to ensure you receive your form submissions.

  1. To change the storage of your form, click the Storage tab at the top of the form block editing window.

  2. From the Storage tab, you can view/manage your past submissions, change the email notification address, add an additional third-party email storage platform (like Google Drive or MailChimp). You can also choose to turn on/off Google ReCAPTCHA.

    • Manage Submissions – Clicking Manage Submissions will take you to the Form Submitters page (you can also find this via Contacts > Lists & Segments) where you can click on and view past submissions.

    • Email Notifications – Click the existing email address listed (hello@stnsvn.com), click the X to delete that email, and add your email.

    • Additional Storage – If you use a third-party email marketing platform, you can connect it from this window.

    • Google reCAPTCHA – reCAPTCHA prevents spam emails from being submitted. We recommend that you toggle this setting on.

  3. Click Save to save the changes you have made to the form storage.
